What do you think about having radios on motorcycles?

September 28, 2009 - 6:11 pm 13 Comments

I always see people with super loud radios on their motorcycles now.Is there even a point to having them? Can you even hear it while you are riding?

Personal preference.
They work well when set up right.
I have had one before, I choose not to now.
I don’t need it.

Radio inside the helmet is better.

Some bikes are so quiet you can talk to your passenger while going down the highway. Gold Wings & BMW KLT’s are a couple. Those have radios that can be heard well even at high speeds. I have one on mine, AM/FM/weather/cassette/CD changer but I don’t even use it, too noisy for me. I LIKE my quiet bike!

Why not just run headphones into your helmet?

Once you’ve had a bike with a radio, you won’t want one without. I can hear mine at 100mph.

hahaha.. In the Philippines we customize our "underbones" to perfection. We put subs and everything else on a 110cc bike.. Check this link if you dont believe me..

Yes, you can hear them and no, they don’t have to be loud. I have an 07 Street Glide, and it has a radio/CD player on it. The noise from the motor is behind you while you are moving, and you don’t even hear it at all. I can play the radio at the same volume as in my pickup truck. The only time I need to put it louder, is when it’s really cold and I have my full face helmet on. Then, it’s the helmet, and not the bike noise that prevents me from hearing it.

While they’re putting radios in the helmets why not install a radar detector in one as well?!

Hey Heavydeezy, is that your mom, dad, and brother painted on the side of that scooter???
I think radios on bikes are dumb, as are cell phones and CBs. And intercom as far as that goes. Riding cycles should be an adventure not sullied by the interference of yakking at others or being further entertained (or distracted) by the radio or CDs or whatever. Just unplug and ride……………………

Mp3 players or ipods are great. The inner ear headphones block outside noise and sound good. They are also easy to fit inside a helmet. Just put it in your inside jacket pocket and run the headphone jack.
I just bought a sony ericsson w810i phone and its great for mp3s with awesome sound!
