What is the difference between HD radio and satallite radio?
For his birthday, I would like to buy my boyfriend one of these two types of radio for his car, but what is the difference? What is better? I think he would enjoy the different radio stations not available on regular radio, can I get that on both? I am electronically "dumb" and would appreciate any advice from the savvy.
omg. i got a satellite radio and i love it. i got the silhouette 2 from sirius and i love it. it’s also portable! it cost about $325.00 plus you want to have it professionally installed. you get all different types of music comercial free. it’s about $13.00 a month for subscription. i love mine! also, you keep your regular radio. that’s what it comes through. so if you want to listen local you can.

HD radio is CD-like quality with more stations but still contains the regular and local stations
satellite radio has programed stations that remain the same anywhere you go.. and does not contain local stations
hope this helps

Hd radio is free to receive. Satellite is subscription based, you pay monthly to receive it.

HD is free and broadcast by the stations in your town. Satellite is broadcast from space and you have to pay.

hd radios are those cd/dvd/mp3 stereo systems with the hd screen and the satillite radio are just radio stations without the commercials so the best gift would be to have the sattilite radio installed in his hd radio system.

HD Radio is just a BS marketing ploy by the Radio Stations… You’ll just end up listening to commercials all day.
I have had Sirius Satellite Radio for the past three years, and I don’t think I could live without it now. There are about 100 music stations, all with zero commercials. A ton of great talk and comedy stations, including Howard Stern’s radio show. I love my radio more than television.

HD radio will die in the coming years, not because of cost, but because of programming. Take for example, Sirius VS HD…you can get, in my area, 95.5, the local hiphop station in "HD" but nothing you really wanna listen to. When you pay monthly for Sirius, you get shit that you can listen to in ANY mood you could be in. Like, if YOU got into his car, you could pick absolutely ANYTHING your hear desires to hear. A paid subscription to either sirius or xm will ALWAYS be better, not because it’s cooler, but because of the content you recieve. He (and you lol) will be much happier with a paid sattelite subscription, than free "whatever they give you" HD radio. There just aren’t that many HD stations out there, and the one’s i’ve heard just aren’t really any better than the one’s i’ve already listened to. hope that cleared things up.
