Is there a way to listen to archive radio recordings of Radio Moscow or Radio Berlin International?

March 12, 2010 - 4:39 pm 1 Comment

I’ve been doing some work on the cold war and have found small snip-its of the english (and for Radio Berlin, German) versions of these stations from the period – is anyone aware of a site where you can access these or any other cold war radio recordings (ie: Radio Prague, Bucharest..)
wow those links are very useful – my German isn’t excellent but I can’t seem to find anything on RBI on the archives website?

What is the cheapest way to get streaming radio?

March 6, 2010 - 11:32 pm 4 Comments

I live in a remote rural area with no radio reception. I do have internet however, and since there are many stations streaming online, I could connect with a "whole house transmitter" which would rebroadcast the station so that I could receive it with various radios in the house. My question is: What is the best way to get a continuous streaming signal, 24/7? I don’t want to but a computer to use solely for this task, and most of the internet radios that I have read about don’t have good reviews. Any Ideas?

theres a great media player out there that i use called Winamp and one of the things it has is an internet radio streaming function, it has AOL radio and Shoutcast radio and both have tons of stations to choose from, i prefer AOL radio because it comes with a lot more channel options.

place to download is winamp.com
its completely free and its a rather small program

How does one get into radio voice over work?

February 24, 2010 - 7:34 pm 4 Comments

I hear people on the radio & think it’s a total possibility for me. I’m a master at voices, sounds & accents – & I think my city is big enough that there might be some opportunities through local businesses who have radio ads.

Yet…I have NO CLUE on how to get started. Anyone?

Put together a cd of you voicing a commercial or public service announcement (be creative) showing off your different voices, accents etc. Make the cd 2 or 3 minutes long if you can but no longer than that. Next check around your city for (legit) recording studios ask if they do television or radio commercials and give them a copy of your cd. Get cards made so you can pass them out as you network or meet people in all types of business (also radio/tv stations) that may want you to voice their commercial or refer you to other business’.
Recording studios do this type of work all the time and they are your best bet for finding(paid) work and they will let you know if you actually have the voice for this type of work or not.
Good Luck!

What causes the radio in a clock radio to come on by itself?

February 16, 2010 - 3:26 pm 1 Comment

I use the alarm every day but never the radio. It’s never set on "radio."

It’s happened when I’m in the room, so I know nothing / no one has disturbed the clock radio before it pops on. It just sits there quietly for hours and then suddenly comes on by itself.

When the radio pops on, it’s at totally random times which are never in sync with the programmed alarm time.

You probably have a bad radio. If the times are at random you need to take it back to the store. :)

When Radio Stations give out tickets for a concert, Are they usually good seats?

February 11, 2010 - 10:07 pm 7 Comments

I won tickets for my sister to go see Britney Spears this March by calling in a radio station and naming the 5 songs they played. She is planning to buy extra tickets because she doesnt know if the ones I won from the radio station are good seats. Does anyone know? Anyone with expirience?

I had a friend who won tix twice and took me (Dave Matthews Band and 311), we had really good seats at both shows.

What conservative radio talk show host made a big issue out of the word "progressive" today?

February 7, 2010 - 2:19 am 20 Comments

Today, all of a sudden, the word "progressive" has become the conservatives’ all-purpose devil term to describe people they disagree with.

Which radio talk show host targeted that word today?

Glenn Beck has done a lot of shows about Progressives.

What would cause the radio in my truck to stop working one day?

January 31, 2010 - 3:07 am 6 Comments

I have a 96 dodge dakota and for some reason when I went out to start it today there was no power going to the radio. The clock didnt even work on it. I did check the fuse and it looked fine, so I just put it back in..What would cause the radio to just stop working?
It is a stock radio and no I havent tampered with anything. Is there a fuse behind the unit possibly?

replace the fuse, sometimes fuses look good but it might have a small break in it, if it’s not that I would look for a shorted or broken wire to the radio.

How do you activate a radio with a light switch?

December 31, 2009 - 7:37 pm 8 Comments

This is for my bathroom. I’ve seen others do it. Once you flip the light switch, a radio (clock radio or music box) inside turns on.

if you have the switch wired to a plug outlet, plug the radio into that so when you turn on that swith, the radio comes on then you can do this. the only other way is if you plug a motion sensor in the plug, then plug the radio into that. they sell those at lowe’s or home depot, and cost anywhere from $25.00 to $50.00. hope this helps.
