Why do some radio stations speed up songs and play them at a higher pitch?

November 4, 2011 - 8:00 pm 4 Comments

So I’ve noticed that some radio stations tend to speed up their songs and make them higher pitched. like some radio stations speed them up by 3, 4, 5%. some even speed it up by 6 or 7%. i mean, i don’t have a problem with it but i was just wondering why.

do any of your local radio stations do that?

that’s dumb. and probay just to fit in more songs in a time slot, or so people find the tune more catchy

Can I listen to foreign radio stations at work via internet?

June 28, 2011 - 11:32 am 1 Comment

My boss does not want to pay for PRS or PPL radio licenses, so I guess no more radio at work. But is there a loophole? If I listen to foreign stations on the internet, do we still have to have a license?

I am in the UK.

No you can’t.

What are some Japanese online radio stations to listen to to learn?

June 9, 2011 - 11:15 pm 2 Comments

What are some Japanese radio stations that are online that I can listen to? I understand you should listen to the language you’re wanting to learn often… but any I come across are in Japanese text so I can’t figure out how to get them to play.

Here’s a suggestion: Download iTunes, install it, go to the podcasts tab, change your "region" to Japan, and then browse Japanese podcasts, and download them to iTunes. I think doing that is easier than trying to find radio stations online.

A website where you can find more info on what to listen, among a lot of very awesome information on how to learn Japanese, is:

I hope you find this info helpful lv! :D

What HD radio stations are only available through an HD tuner?

May 7, 2011 - 9:19 pm 2 Comments

Are there any radio stations that can only be heard through an HD radio tuner? Or is HD radio just all the same channels but in higher sound quality?
I live in Detroit, but what about other cities, like LA, NY?

Just about all of us are running subchannels. In Detroit, you have quite a variety of stations only available with an HD radio. Get the whole list at www.hdradio.com For my $$, Smooth Jazz V98.7 HD-2 is a really good listen. And Detroit’s first Hispanic channel is on WYCD-HD3.

What are the most famous and most listened radio stations in London ?

April 21, 2011 - 3:30 am 6 Comments

I want to improve my english (the London accent), so I want to listen radio stations where I can hear programmes about, politics, economy, society, lifestyle, etc. (especially in the morning).
I hear every day BBC London (good breakfast programmes) but I suppose there are other radio stations like this one.
Thank you !

BBC Radio 4, BBC Radio 5, LBC 97.3 FM

Why is there never any major techno radio stations?

April 11, 2011 - 4:13 pm 3 Comments

I always wondered why there is never any major radio stations for techno/dance music. It seems like a catagory in itself to me. I am planning on studying broadcasting in college and want to become a radio station dj. I just always wondered if people would listen to a techno radio station or why there isn’t any. I mean they have country, pop, hip hop, and classical stations. I just wondered because my dream is to have a techno station:)

I agree with the first answer but think most Americans don’t like techo but people like it in Europe
I think there are techno stations on satellite radio but I don’t remember hearing techno anyplace other than dances.
I would not listen to a techno station but if one goes novelty/dementia I am there.
Doing a web search it looks like there might be Techno stations

Is it possible to listen to NYC radio stations after moving to another state?

March 9, 2011 - 12:26 am 2 Comments

I’m currently living around the NYC area, and I’m a huge WPLJ, KTU, and Z100 fan. However, it looks like I’m going to be moving to Florida. I understand that there are similar stations, but I can’t really bring myself to part with them. Is there a way, using XM or Sirius radio, to get these stations while I live far away from the signal? Thanks so much in advance!

Sirius and XM are prohibited from rebroadcasting over-the-air radio stations. it has to do with how the Arbitron rating system works. Many stations operate a web feed and you can get internet "radios" that look and act like regular radio receivers. The web feed will be slightly different than the air program because Sound Exchange (RIAA) prohibits the play of certain music sets on the internet. Our college station has to switch the internet feed to alternate programs when the air program offends Sound Exchange.

How do I set radio stations on to the channels in a Vauxhall corsa?

February 16, 2011 - 12:47 pm 3 Comments

I’ve just bought a Vauxhall Corsa and I’m struggling with the radio as I cant seem to set the channels 1-6 to different radio stations so it is easier to change from one radio station to another. Can anyone please help :)

With the majority of modern car radios, you tune to a station you want, then press *and hold* the button you want to save it on.

It will momentarily change to whatever station is already on that button, but after holding it in for a few seconds it will change back to the one you want. It’s then been saved.
