February 11, 2010 - 10:06 pm 1 Comment

I live like an hour outside of Atlanta…what radio station can I listen to the game on? Its Nate McClouth’s first game with the Braves and I would like to see it, but its not airing on any of the channels I have. So is there a radio station i can listen to it on?

According to the Braves website, the game is either on 640 WGST or Project 9-6-1 if you can get those. Good luck.

What things would you need to start a radio station at home?

February 9, 2010 - 11:43 am 2 Comments

My friends and I are looking to start a small radio station at home and were wondering what we would need to start out.

Read this first: http://www.fcc.gov/lpfm/

You can also operate a low power station in the AM Broadcast band but it will have very limited range.

FM transmitters range from crap to professional quality. Check out this search: http://url2it.com/ccha

Good luck and have fun. If you enjoy radio operation consider getting your Amateur (Ham) Radio license.

does anyone know the steps to take to start your own radio station from home? Even a website would be appreciated.

You’d need a lot of money, a lot of equipment, and an FCC license.

How do you get a radio station to accept an album?

January 22, 2010 - 8:04 am 3 Comments

How would you go about convincing a radio station to play a certain album? I don’t mean casually recommending it to them, I mean persuading them to play the album you show them, instead of just putting it in a pile where all the other suggested albums go.
Anybody?

It practically never works that way. Most music stations do not program their own music, anyway. They contract that out to a satellite-based service or by other means. Still, they do get a lot of CDs and even still some tapes sent to them, all unsolicited. Nearly all of it goes in the trash.

This is not the best analogy, but it’s the best one that I can think of right now. Suppose someone you didn’t know approached you with a t-shirt and told you that you could have it for free as long as you wore it right then? For one t-shirt, you might say "Cool!" But suppose 100 strangers approached you this week, each with one t-shirt, making you the same offer? Then, the same thing happened next week. And, the week after that, and . . . it wouldn’t take long for that to get old, now would it? Add to that having your phone ring constantly with these same strangers asking, "How did you like it? How did your family like it? How did your bf or gf like it? When will you wear it again?" And, add to that hearing from all of those t-shirt makers’ family members, friends, neighbors, even from others hired by t-shirt makers to make calls for them. Do I hear a "No, thanks!"?

That is just how it is at radio stations when it comes to unsolicited material. Only it’s worse, because people are very emotionally attached to their music. Persuading, pleading, begging, cajoling, even threatening a radio station in order to get them to play a CD is counterproductive. Enjoy your own music yourself, and invest your talents locally in clubs, special events, churches, etc. depending on what style of music yours is. Start locally and go from there.

How to stop hearing radio (station nearby) through headphones connected to plugged in computer?

January 20, 2010 - 3:23 am 1 Comment

I live near a radio station, and when I’m on my desktop computer (which is plugged into the wall) and I have headphones plugged into the speakers, I can hear the radio through them. It’s soft, but loud enough to disturb whatever I’m listening to. I can also hear the radio through headphones connected to my electric keyboard when it is plugged into the wall. How do I stop this from happening?

the station is real close within in a mile of you right? call their tech guys and explain your getting RFI from them on your head phones and it needs to be fixed which will get you you an answer of we’ll work on it but otherwise you could always get an RFI filter or better head phones

How would a radio station know if deejays are copying mp3s for their personal collection?

January 13, 2010 - 8:25 am 1 Comment

Is there any sure way for a radio station to stop people from copying CDs or MP3s for personal use?

That question almost answers itself, like "Does a brewer drink beer?" But, they’re really well paid and don’t so much need to steal and bootleg music. The studios give DJ copies of everything to them as it is.

You know, Gibson would give a special edition, custom guitar to Eric Clapton while you and I have to buy our own- sh-t, I wish I could. He is going to put the product out there like no commercial ever could. So, why shouldn’t the guy who can put an artist on the forefront, or hide them away- the DJ- should get as much music as they can stand so we might hear it enough to want to keep buying it.

What should I ask a radio station about doing a commercial for a store?

What should I ask a radio station about doing a commercial for a store?
I have a meeting in the morning with a radio commercial manager what kind of questions should I ask him?
I have written a jingle and I am looking to maybe have some kind of advertising campain for the store i manage but i really havent done anything like this before, help me!

Ask about package discounts for bulk play and time slots.
They should know how to help you come up with an effective ad.
You might save a bit of $$ if you have your own "singers" to create the ad. Do have it blocked out befor you book studio time to record it. Also remember you want to have time limits. 15 seconds and 30 seconds and even 10 seconds are common.
You want to be able to have a longer and a shorter one so you can just hit the highlights with the short one and listeners will remember the details from the longer version.
You may need to buy more time at first to get noticed.
Take your time and don’t be pressured into anything you don’t have time to think about. Know what you want and they will try to give you all they can coz they need to keep you happy to keep your business.
