What radio station couldn’t say 88 degrees on the air because that was a rivaling station?

December 4, 2010 - 1:24 am 3 Comments

I don’t know if it was exactly 88 degrees. They could say 87 or 89 but not 88 (or what the number actually was).
The 88 degrees was the name of a rivaling radio station. What was the true story behind all this?

I’ve been in radio 27 years and have never heard of this. Sounds like another urban myth.

What radio stations play bands like Bring Me The Horizon or Escape The Fate?

December 2, 2010 - 8:33 am 6 Comments

I have a program on my computer to listen and import live feeds to pretty much any radio station (Snowtape 2) and i was wondering if anyone new some good radio stations whether they be internet radio streams or normal radio streams where i can listen to bands like Bring Me The Horizon, Escape The Fate, blessthefall, The Devil Wears Prada, Enter Shikari, Asking Alexandria, bands like that.

Those bands are too cool for the radio. The radios sucks so bad. Support the band and actually buy their CD

How does a radio station job work? And can one run without people? Can the music run by itself?

November 29, 2010 - 11:54 am 2 Comments

I am writing a movie about the apocalypse. In it, the characters listen to the radio, and it zooms in, and shows the radio station with everybody dead, but music still running. Is there a way to "shuffle" music, or make it run for about a week or so without humans being around? And can you describe more clearly what the job is and how you would do it.

Do you have Itunes? Put a crapload of music and hit shuffle.

is there a radio station in Paris similar to radio 2 in the uk ?

November 25, 2010 - 12:13 pm 1 Comment

I am trying learning French, and would like to listen to a online radio station that is similar to radio 2 in the UK. So a French national station if one exists ?
Any suggestions ?

French radio stations tend to be more musically specialised than in the UK. There is no true equivalent of Radio 1 / 2 / 3 / 4.

The frequences are different according to the town you’re in. You can find all the frequencies on this site : http://www.frequences-radios.com/frequences-radios-gratuites-ville-PARIS.html

What radio station plays that love story music?

November 21, 2010 - 9:09 pm 2 Comments

A few years ago I listened to a radio station in the afternoon where the dj read a sad love story letter and they played this sad music as he read the story. Can’t remember what station it was. Can anyone help?

Or if you build a station can you buy another station’s radio license?

No, you have to personally apply for a new license.

What is the trick to calling a radio station for a contest?

November 18, 2010 - 8:25 am 3 Comments

When you call a radio station to win a prize and they say be caller #7 what is the trick so you don’t get a busy signal? Finally how do phone lines for radio stations work? I know they have multiple lines, but who is actuality answering the phone? Please let me know thank you.

The trick is persistence. Keep trying. Two phones, a speed dialer these all help but there are no guarantees.. The majority of radio station contests are answered by the DJ or producer running the show. Caller ID is usually not used to prevent illegal bias, and the number they give, i.e 23rd caller, is supposed to be accurate, though I have seen DJ’s who’ll get lazy and skip a few numbers until they get close to the number they asked for. Our two stations that do a lot fo contests have 6 caller lines. Our stations that have less call ins, have 3 -5 lines. The DJ usually has the option of the number, but some are fixed by management. It’s a serious offense to do the contest falsely so they usually play it straight.

What cd collection did/do radio stations used and where can I find one?

November 16, 2010 - 2:24 pm 1 Comment

I am volunteering at a local radio station and will be starting a hip hop program but I do not have a "clean" collection of music. I’ve done work at a radio station in the past where it had a CD library of all the new and old song. New CDs came weekly. Now with the digital age the radio stations probably don’t use many CDs so where can I get my hands on one of those collections or a distributor’s clean collection of hip hop?

You could try Ebay but CD shops don’t have them, and they won’t sell to the public.
Isn’t "clean hip-hop" a contradiction in terms?
