How do you connect iPods to car radios?

November 19, 2009 - 5:22 am 1 Comment

I saw some people connect iPods to their car radios with this cord thing and I’ve never seen that anywhere. Where can I get that?

There are a few ways to get your iPod connected to your car stereo. You can use the adapter that allows your iPod to broadcast music through an unused radio channel, if your car stereo has an Aux adapter built in you can plug a cable into your ipod headphone jack into an Aux input in the stereo or you can use the old fashioned cassette adapter.

What is the best emergency radio to buy?

Is there an emergency radio for sale that has all the major bands: AM, FM, NOAA, VHF and HD Radio?

NPR has the ETON, which has the neat hand crank to operate feature. No HD but not needed as HD by regulation must replicate the main analog channel. The spring membership drive is coming up in March, many NPR affiliates offer it as a pledge thank you gift. I just sent my membership renewal in. Or try the NPR shop at NPR.org

why should the handsfree headset be connected for the fm radio of the mobile phone to work?

November 19, 2009 - 5:22 am 3 Comments

why is it that the mobile phone needs the headset to be connected for the fm radio to work?

The headset doesn’t act as an antenna, as has been stated by at least one answerer – bit difficult to do that as it’s not actually connected to the phone.

This is something some makers build into phones so that the radio can’t be used in a way it would annoy other people in enclosed spaces – public transport for example..

How does one find listings of national radio station contests to enter?

November 19, 2009 - 5:22 am 1 Comment

Google doesn’t seem to do the trick. :D Guesswork, like typing in random radio station names you know must exist does seem to work at finding one station, at least. But surely some contest hobbyist has a list they post rather than keep to themselves.

you can try typing in the "state name, ie: Michigan", and then typing in "radio contests". If you narrow your search from state to state then it might be easier to find contests that you can compete in. After you have found multiple radio stations and if you are a big contest junkie, then you can add those websites to your favorites that way you can instantly look them up and see if there is a current contest being held. Good Luck!

Where should I go to start a paid internet radio station?

November 19, 2009 - 5:22 am 2 Comments

Not that anyone would pay for it… but assuming they would. Where would I go to start an internet radio station that requires payment to listen?
Nice answer mainecpa. Really intelligent. Actually it’s for a National Park to distribute the information via prerecorded audio of where the fishing the is the most active on the lake.

But excellent answer. I’ll be sure to report you for your time.

most regular over the air radio stations are already free to listen to on the internet – there are probably 1000’s already out there – you would have to have content available nowhere else that people would actually want to listen to in order to get any interest from paying customers and if you haven’t noticed, pay satellite radio is not even profitable yet after 5+? years it’s been around

Why are certain FM radio stations not coming in on my sony stereo?

November 19, 2009 - 5:22 am 1 Comment

I have a problem with my sony mhc-gx250 stereo where for some reason stations 99.5 thru 100.5 will not work. They are not staticky, but rather completely silenced. It is not a problem with the positioning of the antenna or distance from the radio station. Has anyone heard of this problem, and Does anyone know what would fix this?

If everything else works, as it apparently does, it just means you are not able to pick up a signal for a station within those frequency parameters, or no one in you area is even broadcasting between 99.5 and 100.5.
