How to get Irish radio stations on a US radio?

October 26, 2009 - 2:01 am 2 Comments

I live in the USA but I want to know if it is possible to get Irish radio stations on my car radio in the US. I was wondering, is there a way that I can get the stations through my ipod? If there are any other ways that you know of, please let me know.

No way to get it on the car radio. Too far. AM and FM doesn’t reach that far (too long to explain here, if you don’t know it.)
Maybe you can get a station from that far on a short wave radio, but I’ve never heard of a short wave radio for a car. You can buy a portable short wave radio for about $100 and carry it in the car, but still the reception will not be good.
Through iPod? Some kind of Internet radio? Maybe, but still you’ll not like the reception.
What about those satellite radios? Sirius or whatever they are called? Do they carry European channels? I don’t know.

How accurate are the clocks on DAB radios and Freeview TV boxes? Where does their time signal come from?

I’d like to know how DAB Radios and Freeview boxes receive their time signal and how accurate it is.

The time shown on a DAB radio or Freeview box’s display screen is set from the broadcast signal. It is regularly checked and, if necessary, adjusted to match the signal.

This can only happen when the radio or Freeview box is switched on and receiving a station. Many radios and Freeview boxes only check the broadcast time once an hour.

What makes a radio select and hold a specific frequency?

My cars antena broke (the kind that goes up when you turn the radio on). Replaced it but when I turn the radio on and the antena comes up I get service but I’m unable to select and hold a station. I get every station in range and all at once. Just curious why that is.

It is possible that there is a tuning capacitor at the back of your radio that needs to be adjusted to match the antenna to the radio input circuitry. If this match is not done, you may be picking up signals that are spurious. Check either your car’s manual or the instruction book that came with your radio to find out if there is a tuning control like this on your set.

I need FM radio frequency in California to work with my FM transmitter MP3 player?

I have a TomTom GO 730 which has an FM transmitter to play my mp3 songs through my car radio. I would like a good frequency that I can use the entire length of my drive from southern California to northern California. I don’t want to have to keep searching during the trip.

I may not be able to give you a specific frequency, but I do have some advice:

If at all possible, remove the radio antenna from your car when you want to listen to MP3s. This will make give you a much smaller pick up range for the radio, meaning the FM Transmitter should be the only thing it pick up well, even if there is interference on the specific station you choose.

Where are there any nice Christmas light displays accompanied by radio music in central Arkansas?

I’ve heard of some displays where you can turn your radio to a certain frequency to hear the music that goes along with the blinking of the lights, etc. I’d love to see some of these. Thanks!

Beacause you didn’t put your lights up yet. You can do it if you feel it is needed or wanted then it is a very good project for you and your family

Happy Christmas
