How do you trace or track down a radio signal?

September 28, 2009 - 6:10 pm 3 Comments

If i am in contact with a radio, how can I trace the location of the radio? Is there a way to geolocate a radio signal. I dont have any of the radios information, and am and will be unable to get any information regarding the equipment. However, I am in communications with that radio. How would I go about being able to find where the radio is located? Is there any sort of special equipment that I can use to geolocate it?

Using a directional antenna such as a loop or a beam antenna (Yagi or log periodic) rotate the antenna and note in what direction the signal peaks. If this is done from two positions (triangulation) then the transmitter is at the intersection of the two bearings as drawn on a chart.

How do you change a insignia or any am fm radio from getting power from an electrical socket to just batteries?

September 28, 2009 - 6:10 pm 1 Comment

I want to take my insignia am fm radio/ipod player on a trip and would like to play music out loud at the hotel. There are batteries in the device but when i unplug it, it doesn’t work on it’s own and was wondering if it is possible to have it work on just batteries. Help???

Usually just removing the power cord should shift your radio to the batteries for power. If it doesn’t, you may require fresh batteries or possibly need to clean the battery terminals of the player. Remember to use rubbing alcohol for cleaning and not water or other cleaners! I hope this helps.

Is it possible to set up a streaming internet radio station that registers plays?

September 28, 2009 - 6:10 pm 1 Comment

I’m just curious if there is a way to set up a streaming radio station that will give the artists the normal play credit? Whatever it is they make per play. If not, is it possible to set a station that will just stream somewhere all day in auto?
Or even better, a list of top online radio stations.

"…is it possible to set a station that will just stream somewhere all day in auto?"

Yes, it’s called Auto Dj, you upload the mp3s to a server and will play 24/7.

I had a radio in 2007 with this guys for around 6 months http://www.b2netsolutions.com/shoutcast-servers-hosting.htm , live on Shoutcast and was ok. They have an Auto Dj but there are many other streaming hosts.

How do i make my music radio friendly?

September 28, 2009 - 6:10 pm 1 Comment

I have a radio show on my college’s radio station. the problem is my music isn’t "radio friendly". I was wondering if there’s a way to censor my music for airplay?

Most music is released in both censored and uncensored versions. You’ll need to get the the uncensored versions to play. You could also bleep out and censor your songs yourself if the radio station has a "cart machine."

Online radio?

September 28, 2009 - 6:10 pm 5 Comments

What online radio stations do you listen to? I listen to 3 different radio stations while I’m at school and there not stations from my city. I listen to R&B stations WBHK 98.7 and WUHT 107.7 both in Birmingham, AL and WYLD FM 98 in New Orleans. What are the stations you listen to in your city or not?

94.9 KLTY – Christian music, but many of the songs are also played on regular radio. Like Daugherty (probably spelled wrong) he was the bald rocker guy on American Idol. And
www.klty.com

or Pandora – you start by choosing the type of music you like and it makes suggestions. You rate the songs to help it know what you like, eventually it picks songs and you built your "play list" by saying you like or hate a song etc. It may have trouble figuring you out at first if you are like me, I like ALL types of music from christian to rock to oldies…even like classical so to put a label on the type of music I Iike is impossible.

How do i listen to my old radio station after moving?

September 28, 2009 - 6:10 pm 2 Comments

I just moved from northern cali to southern cali and the music is totally different! In northern cali we had the hphy movement and down here theres none of that. I want to listen to my old radio station. Is there a special car radio or something I can buy so i can access that radio station?

You might try first to see if the have a live broadcast on their Internet website. At least that way you can listen in the house and at work. After that, the only way to get it in your car is if your old station has a satellite link-up with one of the services. Very few do though right now. You just can’t push a FM signal that kind of distance from North to South California unfortunately.
