What radios tell you before you blow your subwoofer?

September 30, 2009 - 9:00 pm 7 Comments

I trying to get a system and when i get it i dont want to blow my subs what kind of radios out there are good i prefer ones with a dvd player like valor but idk wuts your opion?

no radio can tell you that, but it can be avoided by watching out for a few things, and when it comes to car audio you always get what you pay for
make sure all of your amps and subs are CEA compliant (so you know how much power you are really working with) and don’t pay any attention to the peak/max wattage numbers because they mean nothing all you care about is RMS watts, match those numbers and set you gain properly you should have no problems, you also want to be careful with your ohm load

What is the difference between HD radio and satallite radio?

September 30, 2009 - 9:00 pm 11 Comments

For his birthday, I would like to buy my boyfriend one of these two types of radio for his car, but what is the difference? What is better? I think he would enjoy the different radio stations not available on regular radio, can I get that on both? I am electronically "dumb" and would appreciate any advice from the savvy.

omg. i got a satellite radio and i love it. i got the silhouette 2 from sirius and i love it. it’s also portable! it cost about $325.00 plus you want to have it professionally installed. you get all different types of music comercial free. it’s about $13.00 a month for subscription. i love mine! also, you keep your regular radio. that’s what it comes through. so if you want to listen local you can.

How to take parental controls of Panasonic FM Radio Omnivision VHS?

September 30, 2009 - 9:00 pm 1 Comment

I have a Panasonic FM Radio Omnivision VHS tv and everytime I see a program that’s rated R or TV-14, the parental control sign goes on. I know the password but it’s annoying that every time I see something rated R or TV-14 that the parental controls keeps popping up and that I have to keep putting in the password. How do I take off the parental controls?

Generally, you go to the menu or settings mode, then to parental control settings and set them for what you want. You can even just turn it off.

How can I add a Streaming Radio Station to my myspace?

September 30, 2009 - 9:00 pm 1 Comment

I am the PD for my University radio station, and we would like to have our station stream on our Myspace. We already stream online, and use realplayer. I just think it would be cool to add our stream to the Myspace page so that users could hear us, and not the same artist playing all the time. Please help, and Thanks!

I’m pretty sure you can do that. All you’d have to do is copy the address of your stream then put it in a simple embed code. Just add this code to your myspace:

<embed src="STREAMS_ADDRESS.ram" width="300" height="150">

You can change the width and height to however big or small you want your player to be. If you’re streaming with realplayer, this will make a small embed realplayer. Good luck with getting this up and running.

What radio station / music channel can I go to for a rundown of the latest hit songs?

September 30, 2009 - 9:00 pm 1 Comment

I want a good radio station and/or music channel on t.v to get a good rundown of the charts. I can’t find any radio station that plays the NEW songs and I always have to hear about new songs from my friends. What should I do?

well it depends on what company you have for like cable or dish. if you have just like regular cable just go to like vh1 and watch the countdown they always have new premieres and if you have like directv then go onto the xm hits channel. hope that helps :)

How do I create my own online internet radio station for free?

September 30, 2009 - 9:00 pm 1 Comment

Where I can choose what songs that are gonna play, pretty much control anything that plays, but at the same time I’m choosing what I play like regular FM stations. Cause I’m bored of regular online radio, like Pandora or MeeMix!

Whats the easiest way to broadcast live radio over a website?

September 30, 2009 - 9:00 pm 1 Comment

I have several websites that I want to be able to broadcast live radio over. I need someones opinion as to which is the best and cheapest way to go about it. Thanks.

Nullsoft Shoutcast is the standard, I guess you could make a module that plays a shoutcast stream with flash or perl.

What are my options for creating an internet radio station that includes visuals?

September 30, 2009 - 9:00 pm 2 Comments

I have done some research and am looking to create my own radio station on the internet but I would like to be able to broadcast visual data as well. It would predominantly be satisfying to listen to as a radio station but for those with the option to view, I would like to include video as well. Anyone know if this is an option??? Thanks!

Your best and cheapest way… and by cheapest i mean $0 dollars, is to register with a video stream site like www.justin.tv or www.ustream.tv. This is use to have your video stream live.

Once you have an account, you can record video and audio and stream it live to anyone who visits your page on justin.tv or ustream.tv.
If you have your own website, you can embed your video with the code provided and can even incorporate chat for your viewers to interact.

Let me know if this answers your question.

Why do the different BBC national radio stations sound so different acoustically?

September 30, 2009 - 8:59 pm 1 Comment

(NOTE: This question is nothing to do with the content of the different stations). As a Radio 4 listener, I have noticed that the acoustic quality of sound, specifically speech, seems poorer on Radio 1 and, to a lesser extent, Radio 2 than it is on Radio 3 and 4 (I am not referring to the presenter’s accents etc.). Is the BBC using inferior equipment or perhaps "dumbing down" the sound to give a pirate radio feel in order to attract younger listeners?

It’s probably due to compression of the dynamic range (companding) that is used to give a "bigger" sound to the station. This process is VERY evident (and intrusive, to me,) on Radio 1, but less-so Radio 2. Radio 3 would balk at such a travesty, whilst Radio 4, being all (well. mostly) speech does not need to use it much.

Companding entails raising the amplitude of quiet sections of programme feed so that they are easier to pick out amongst ambient noise around a listener (e.g. in a car). It is a useful process that can enhance marginal communications channels, but its use in entertainment broadcasts is questionable. (Perhaps I should say its OVER use…)
