Are there small portable Morse radios available for sale?

February 7, 2010 - 2:20 am 1 Comment

If I did get into Morse code, I would want to purchase a small, portable radio to send messages. Portability, for me, would be huge if it were possible to find a portable radio.

Also, how small do these radios typically get? Is it possible to get something as small as a walkee-talkee?

radios which do morse code can be very small! Personally, I built one and put it in an Altoids tin. I probably could have fit it in something smaller even but you can’t beat the price and they’re everywhere. It’s a 30m rock-mite transceiver and transmits half a watt. It was only $29 from smallwonderlabs.com. Another interesting tiny morse transceiver is the ATS-3b, which has a VFO, operates on 6 bands and up to 4 watts and will still fit in an Altoids tin!

What conservative radio talk show host made a big issue out of the word "progressive" today?

February 7, 2010 - 2:19 am 20 Comments

Today, all of a sudden, the word "progressive" has become the conservatives’ all-purpose devil term to describe people they disagree with.

Which radio talk show host targeted that word today?

Glenn Beck has done a lot of shows about Progressives.

Do you think some of the music on radio today is having a effect on our kids?

February 7, 2010 - 2:19 am 12 Comments

A person used to be able to play country music while around children but don’t you think the music is becoming more and more unappropriate? For example all the songs about sex and now adays it seems alcohol has become a popular subject like Tequila makes her close fall off, and Alcohol, lets get drunk and be somebody, all jacked up. Do you agree with me that they are going to have a negative effect on our kids. Its funny for adults but I don’t think it should be on the radio! I have even heard the pep band at a high school basketball game play the song all jacked up!! Is it any wonder alcohol is becoming a increasing problem with our children today!

The worst for me is this gangsta rap music which sets a really bad example for kids. I understand that my parents also didn’t like the 60’s and 70’s music but compared to what goes now there is no comparison. They are really bad role models for kids with their anti-social antics!

Motorola Droid: How to listen to live online radio that requires Windows Media Player?

February 7, 2010 - 2:19 am 1 Comment

I just got my Motorola Droid phone from Verizon a couple of days ago.

I’ve been trying to listen to this online radio station from Greece.
Here’s the link: http://live24.gr/radio/derti.jsp

I can listen to it just fine on my desktop computer (since it has Windows Media Player) but no luck on my Droid phone… =/

Does anyone know what to do?
Thanks in advance.

Sorry, you can’t use Windows Media on an android phone, but you can ge the pandora radio app. it’s better.

How do you talk live on bus radio?

February 7, 2010 - 2:19 am 3 Comments

On my school bus we have bus radio & idk if there is a certain way to increase ur chances of being on there live or not if there is plz tell.

I don’t think so, but I read all the information on this type of radio, and it seems that it might be fun. Just be careful and don’t give any information that you wouldn’t want blabbed all over the place. I’d be interested in hearing how it went tho. I have never heard of this before. I guess that I have just been out of the loop for too long.

Do it, have fun, but use your common sense.

If you want to know where I got the info, go to:

Why do some radio stations, shopping malls and grocery stores play Christmas songs all the time?

February 7, 2010 - 2:19 am 5 Comments

That is, a month before Christmas? I don’t observe Christmas myself but I have no beef with those who wish to celebrate it and play that kind of music. What annoys me is when grocery stores, shopping malls and radio stations start playing ONLY Christmas music 24/7. If they want to mix Christmas songs with their normal music, fine, but why do they have to play ONLY Christmas music for a month before Christmas?

To get us in the mood to spend money, of course.

How did human beings develop radios and even get signals and transmissions over wires?

February 4, 2010 - 9:57 pm 5 Comments

cn someone give the whole science behind it? how did they develop it? how did they know they could transfer signals through wires..how did they know to convert signals to transmissions? how do they use satelites and frequency in radios? etc etc…
well the 1st answer doesnt help at all…..

That would take half a day to answer so I will refer you to a couple useful links through wikipedia.

In short, the discovery of electricity led to the study of it for any purpose imaginable from communications to physical therapy to mechanics. The telegraph would transmit electrical pulses (long and short) over a conductive wire and an alphabet of dashes and dots was created to utilize this means of communications.

Radio was discovered by combining electric and magnetic waves of energy to produce an electromagnetic signal that could be tuned to transmit or receive different frequencies.

P.S. If you really want to learn about the mechanics of radio technology I suggest building one. I made one when I was younger and it was a good experience, but I believe they sell radio building kits now so it shouldn’t be as difficult gathering up all the materials.
